Question Yellow-billed Cuckoo info request....

Hello all, I was wondering if you all might could help me with this (and I hope this will be the right catagory/board to put this under, if not please let me know which one would be more applicable). If you've been on a trip down to South America or Centrel America and saw Yellow-billed Cuckoos or if you know of some databases for Central and South American birds, your help would be greatly appreciated. You could e-mail me directly if you'd like. My contact info is located below.
Thank you so much!

INFORMATION REQUESTED ON WINTERING YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS IN CENTRAL AND SOUTH
AMERICA— Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus occidentalis)
populations have declined; in 2002 it became a Candidate for protection in the
United States under the Endangered Species Act. In order to better inform
conservation efforts through increased knowledge of the winter distribution of
this bird, we request interested people to send us details on Yellow-billed
Cuckoo sightings and collections within Central and South America (including
the Eastern species (Coccyzus americanus), sincie it is difficult to tell differences). Please include the following information, when available, for each observation/collection: your name and address, observer/collector, specimen
type (including age and measurements or visual or auditory detection), date,
precise locality (country, province, and as much detailed information on
locality as possible, including distance and direction from traditionally
mapped features (e.g., nearest town), and lat-long coordinates if known),
elevation, habitat description of locality (with as much detail as possible).
Also please include time of day, condition or quality of
observation/collection, number of Yellow-billed Cuckoos observed, and any
other potentially useful comments (information on migration arrival and
departure dates from locality, behavior, diet, and con-specific interactions,
etc.). Please submit your records to: Christopher Calvo, Colorado Plateau
Research Station, Northern Arizona University, P.O. Box 5614, Building 24,
Room 100, Flagstaff, AZ 86011 USA; FX: 928-556-7466; E-Mail:
cmc75@dana.ucc.nau.edu

Once again, any help with this would be greatly appreciated! You have a great forum by the way.
Thanks for your time.
Christopher Calvo

Greetings YBCU and on behalf of the entire staff of BirdForum, a warm welcome to you.

Undoubtedly someone will be along shortly to give you some suggestions but have you tried our Central and So America section of our Gallery? Sometimes the poster will include little snippets of info when they post their bird. Enjoy and good luck!

Hi, Christopher!

Another warm welcome to you from a fellow northern Arizonan (Overgaard).

I can't help you with your RFI since I haven't yet had the pleasure of visitng Central or South America, but we have quite a few members who have and who live there, so I'm sure someone will be able to help you shortly.

Best of luck with your research.

Hello from Dillon, I am replying to you from Tallahassee, Florida. I dont know if the information I have will be relevant. About 5 weeks ago, I saw a Yellow-Billed Cuckoo roosting in a maple tree very close to my feeders and bird bath. It just sat there not moving or anything. I observed the bird for a while before walking off and when I came back to check on it, it was gone. Because I never saw the bird again, I assumed it was just passing thru.

Christopher,

May I recommend you posting a similar request on:

BirdingPeru:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Birdingperu/

...and...

OrnitoBr(azil):
http://br.groups.yahoo.com/group/ornitobr/
(Portuguese name for the Yellow-billed Cuckoo is Papa-Lagarta-de-Asa-Branca or Papa-Largata-Norte-Americano; otherwise Latin will do.)

Thank you all so much for your help! Sorry for the late response on my part, but I appreciate the welcome and the sightings. I'll try those other two places to post as well. This is quite the wonderful place you all have here, where the world meets and shares a common bond. Again, I appreciate all the help.
