Visiting mudflats in Bohai Bay and Rudong
Hey all,
A post-doc in my lab, Jonathan Green, is heading out to China next month. His interests lie in natural resource economics and he plans to use ecosystem service valuation to motivate the conservation of wetlands in eastern China. He doesn't speak any Chinese, but he's a great person and scientist/economist. He isn't a birder but he's interested in incorporating metrics of shorebird usage of these sites in his valuation schemes. Anyways, he's interested in heading out to Dandong (or anywhere else in Bohai Bay) as well as Rudong in March. Tentatively, his schedule is something along these lines: One to two-day trip to Rudong somewhere in March 12-16; One to two-day trip to Bohai Bay (or Dandong) sometime in March 16-19. I've already contacted MCaribou about Rudong as well as some of my old labmates. However, if anyone was planning to go out to Bohai around that time and wouldn't mind taking along Jon, that would be great. His email is jmg3@princeton.edu. Many thanks! And I'm excited about the solid birding that's going down in the mainland! cheers charlotte |

Hi all!
If any friendly birders plan on heading out to any place in Bohai Bay next month (or Beidaihe in particular, which Gretchen and a friend of mine have told me is more accessible for foreigners?), I'd be grateful if you would consider taking my friend Jon out. He's keen on getting a sense of what the state of the habitat is like and what pressures are being exerted on this area. Please feel free to contact Jon directly (jmg3@princeton.edu) or myself via PM. many thanks! char |
