Easy Wader ID's Please :-)

Hello,
Easy for everyone but me!
It being all quiet on the insect front I thought it was time to get back to birding and took a small picnic to my local reserve. There were small flocks of Lapwings and larger flocks of the birds below. I have no idea what the gulls are but think the others may be Golden Plover?
There were also smaller birds - I've shown them with Lapwings for size.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Jen

Picture 1: Gulls look like Black Headed Gulls, with a large flock of Golden Plover
Picture 2: Lapwing and Golden Plover
Picture 3: Lapwing and two possible Dunlin?
Picture 4: One possible Little Stint? (a bit of a guess)

Hi Jen

I think the birds are:

Pic 1. Black-headed Gulls and Golden Plovers.
Pic 2. Golden Plovers.
Pic 3. Curlew Sandpipers.
Pic 4. Sanderling.

Regards from Donana.

The first two Calidrids are definately Dunlin... the last one doesn't look like one at all to me Chris looks like a winter plumage stint to me

I´d agree with Chris:

Blackheaded Gulls + Golden Plovers
Lapwing + Golden plovers
Lapwing and Dunlin
Lapwing and Dunlin (The bill looks shorter than it is , because it is partly hidden behind this light shell thingy, I think)

So why isn't 4 a Sanderling? Its bill is in front of the shell thingy!

Could be, on reflection.

It has a hind toe.. which rules out Sanderling

I say Little Stint based on the white forehead area above the bill, eye patch above and behind the eye and the brown on the feathers on it's back...look in the collins book and it's a dead ringer for winter plumage Little Stint!

But still might be wrong!

Blimey!
Well, I thought I was watching the same birds. Duh. I can now see that the bill is shorter on one of them and plumage is different. Here are the rest of the pics (in no particular order) without shell thingies etc - hopefully they should help solve it.

Many thanks for gulls and Plovers.
Jen

All but the last one are Dunlin. I'll stick with little Stint for that.
