Walking from home list
I moved into a new house near to some wetlands recently and have started keeping a list of the birds I have seen on foot starting from home. The list has got to 73 and is below. How many birds have you seen on foot from your house? The rules are pretty simple - Only one house per list and only walks that start from your house but all the birds you have ever recorded. Maybe it could be extended to a "by bicycle" list but please indicate.....
Anyway here is my list. I live in Altona, in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. Hoary-headed Grebe Poliocephalus poliocephalus Australian Pelican Pelecanus conspicillatus Little Black Cormorant Phalacrocorax sulcirostris Great Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo Pied Cormorant Phalacrocorax varius Little Pied Cormorant Phalacrocorax melanoleucos Great Egret Ardea alba White-faced Heron Egretta novaehollandiae Little Egret Egretta garzetta Rufous Night-Heron Nycticorax caledonicus Australian Ibis Threskiornis molucca Straw-necked Ibis Threskiornis spinicollis Royal Spoonbill Platalea regia Yellow-billed Spoonbill Platalea flavipes Black Swan Cygnus atratus Australian Shelduck Tadorna tadornoides Maned Duck Chenonetta jubata Gray Teal Anas gracilis Chestnut Teal Anas castanea Pacific Black Duck Anas superciliosa Australian Shoveler Anas rhynchotis Hardhead Aythya australis Whistling Kite Haliastur sphenurus Swamp Harrier Circus approximans Brown Goshawk Accipiter fasciatus Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus Pied Oystercatcher Haematopus longirostris Black-winged Stilt Himantopus leucocephalus Red-necked Avocet Recurvirostra novaehollandiae Masked Lapwing Vanellus miles Red-capped Plover Charadrius ruficapillus Marsh Sandpiper Tringa stagnatilis Common Greenshank Tringa nebularia Red-necked Stint Calidris ruficollis Sharp-tailed Sandpiper Calidris acuminata Pacific Gull Larus pacificus Silver Gull Larus novaehollandiae Great Crested Tern Sterna bergii Whiskered Tern Chlidonias hybridus Rock Dove Columba livia Spotted Dove Streptopelia chinensis Crested Pigeon Geophaps lophotes Galah Eolophus roseicapillus Sulphur-crested Cockatoo Cacatua galerita Rainbow Lorikeet Trichoglossus haematodus Musk Lorikeet Glossopsitta concinna Little Lorikeet Glossopsitta pusilla Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo Chrysococcyx basalis Sky Lark Alauda arvensis Welcome Swallow Hirundo neoxena Tree Martin Hirundo nigricans Eurasian Blackbird Turdus merula Song Thrush Turdus philomelos Golden-headed Cisticola Cisticola exilis Little Grassbird Megalurus gramineus Willie-wagtail Rhipidura leucophrys Crested Shrike-tit Falcunculus frontatus Superb Fairywren Malurus cyaneus Yellow-rumped Thornbill Acanthiza chrysorrhoa Silver-eye Zosterops lateralis White-plumed Honeyeater Lichenostomus penicillatus New Holland Honeyeater Phylidonyris novaehollandiae Red Wattlebird Anthochaera carunculata Brush Wattlebird Anthochaera chrysoptera Magpie-lark Grallina cyanoleuca Australasian Magpie Gymnorhina tibicen Little Raven Corvus mellori Common Myna Acridotheres tristis European Starling Sturnus vulgaris European Greenfinch Carduelis chloris European Goldfinch Carduelis carduelis House Sparrow Passer domesticus Eurasian Tree Sparrow Passer montanus

At least 112 for me (that's my total species list for my local patch, which I only do on foot). Probably a few more on top as there's another site not too far away I usually cycle to but have walked to occasionally.

Interestingly (or worryingly), it amounts to more than 50% of my lifelist- 106.

Three more added
Managed to add three more to my list this weekend...
Black-shouldered Kite, Dusky Moorhen and stunning views of an Australian Hobby just about 5m away on a post at eye level!

Waxwings - nice
I only moved here last year from the UK so know these birds well - maybe the waxwings will hop into your garden soon.....? Best bird I ever saw from my garden in the UK (Warwick) was a flyover Peregrine - it was in my airspace - does this count on a garden list!

Don't keep a list but good birds I have seen on foot from my house include Great Reed Warbler, Little Bittern, Ferruginous Duck, Cetti's Warbler, Black Redstart and regular Bitterns and Long-eared Owls. All (almost) in the shadow of Blackpool Tower.

Yet more additions
Yesterday evening I added Easter Rosella to the list (stunning bird too) and this morning Intermediate Egret and Australasian Grebe. Hopefully should be able to push on to 100 this year!!

Cracked the ton - local patch
Finally cracked 100 species on foot from home. Double-banded plover was the 100th and then added White-browed Scrubwren for 101 to add to the Pink-eared Duck I saw earlier in the week.
