Battery light on Dimage z1

In the past the battery light on my Z1 used to show red that the batteries were exhausted and you would get about 2 photos afterwards if you were lucky. Now it is showing red and you can still get about a dozen shots before they become exhausted. Does anyone know if this is a sign of anything like batteries losing their effectiveness (after countless recharges) or may it be something to do with the camera?
Many thanks

Hello psilo.
I get the same effect on my Z1. After the battery exhausted symbol appears, i find that if you switch the camera off and leave it for 10 minutes, then switch it back on, you can usually get a few more shots before it packs up altogether.
I also try and use the viewfinder as much as possible, instead of the LCD screen, to conserve battery power.

Hi Al thanks for the tip about waiting 10 mins I will try that next time.
I have to say that I always use the viewfinder as it gives a better idea of a good focus than the lcd.
I just wandered if the changing pattern was indicative of something else?
