Suburb of Chicago
Hi everyone! I live 20 miles southwest of Chicago. Not a lot of people are aware of what a great birding place Chicago is. Lake Michigan is a migrant trap and has many areas around the lake to bird. My favorite is Montrose beach which attracts many rarities. There is a great book called A Birders Guide to the Chicago Region that is very helpful. I am very grateful to be living in this productive birding area.
Good Birding Beth |

nother southwest suburb birder
Hi Beth,
I'm about 30 miles southwest of Chicago and we have some great forest preserves out here. Now that I have been looking it is absolutely incredible all the birds you can find in the Chicago area. |

Hi Beth,
From all the BirdForum Moderators and Administration, Welcome! We are glad to have you join us in our appreciation of nature, especially wild birds. Our son lives in Ottawa, Illinois, and whenever we go up for a visit I usually work in a visit to Starved Rock State Park. This is a good birding spot near Ottawa along the Illinois River. Have you ever visited there?

Hi Beth
We have a son living outside CHicago and love the birding when we visit him. A great surprise to me was 'the magic hedge' right in Chicago, we saw some fantastic birds there. Enjoy the site Gillian |
