2 birds ID help - Northern California (1 Viewer)

These are lousy pictures I know, but I was hoping someone might be able to ID these two birds. I haven't been able to reach a conclusion myself. They were taken last week. The loon was taken @Crescent City, CA and the wren was @ Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. It was in a field. thank you!

I think Common Loon. Even though the bill doesn't look very strong, the suggested dark collar at the base of the neck and general shape of the bird indicates this.
