Question Poland, Hungary, Outer Hebrides...any tips?

Hey Folks,

I'm heading to the above three destinations for a week each in May. Will be travelling alone using public transport and hiring bikes.

Do any of ya have any tips / recommendations / experiences that may help enlighten me about these destinations?

Any info would be most gratefully received,

Thanks,

Keep watching the skies,

Basher

POLAND

Check this site:

http://www.staypoland.com/

You should start your trip in Krakow (you can get here from London with EasyJest or Sky Europe air lines). Stay here at least for two - three days (Krakow is the most beautiful city in Poland). I the area of Krakow you can visit also Oswiecim (Auschwitz) - 50 km south from Krakow and Zakopane (in Tatra mouintains) - 100 km south. Then go to Wroclaw (~250 km west from Krakow), next to Poznan (north), through Warsaw (don't stay too long there -there's nothing to see in Warsaw ) to Bialowierza Forrest (amazing place!). Next to Mazury (lake district) and finally to Gdansk (Baltic See coast).

In Zakopane, Bialowierza and Mazury watch the sky!

Thanks for the advice Muddy!

Definitely going to Bialowieza - sounds like a magical place. Also hoping to get to Biebrza marshes as I love getting my feet wet and being plagued by mosquitos!

Hi Busher
In Hungary you should visit the Hortobagy, a big steppe in the East. If you want some local guides check http://www.aquila-tours.hu
There are trains from Budapest to Debrecen and even one line crossing the National Park. And it's a good place for biking, it's flat. Good areas around the village Hortobagy, around Nagyivan and in the north of the park. The best areas are only accessible with a guide.

Hi, I made a website of birding in Poland: http://www.birding.gt.pl

It should contain all the birding info you need, even if I don't have time to update it anymore. Bialowieza, Biebrza and Siemianowka are the key spots.
