Kessingland

Hi All,

A while back I asked if anyone had good location info for the Dusky Warbler at Kessingland, and someone kindly provided all the gen (went something like - drive to Kessingland, find pub call the xxxxx, turn left (or was it right??) and the bird is often found xxxx metres in some bushes.

I've just come to look this info up again (maybe thinking of a trip this weekend) and the thread has obviously been a victim of the problem earlier this year - and my memory obviously isn't up to much!!

Any chance of a repeat....

Thanks.... Ruby

The Pub's called the Sailor's Home, and we found it just by following our noses looking for the shore. The bird has been seen in bushes north of there from a bus shelter up to a couple of sets of steps going up into some bushes from the track along the dune/shingle edge. I know this from two unsuccessful attempts as it can be elusive and may require a long stakeout! Hope you have better luck.

It has mainly be seen about 100m north of the small bus shelter recently often at the top of the small 'cliff' in gardens where it can be hard to see. Occasionally it has returned to the sewage works - south of the road, ask local for directions on arrival - where it was for a chunk of the winter. If you are there at the weekend there's bound to be others looking.

And if you go for it, then try to learn the call beforehand. Although the bird only calls infrequently, in my experience, it's a dead giveaway - a really hard 'tek' or 'tak', bit like Lesser Whitethroat.

Hi All,

Thanks for the help guys.

Did go for it this Saturday, and didn't see it!!

Found the place OK, but no sign that I could see - Got there at about 08:00 and looked for about an hour, but no joy. The dog-walkers were starting to come out in force and I had plenty of other plans so I gave it up.

I see on Birdguides that it has been seen today though - doh!!
