Purple Martins shot with Panasonic FZ20. Novice just starting to use manual modes.

I'ld say you are off to a pretty good start. I dreaded learning to use a camera in manual mode but now wouldn't shoot any other way.

Yes! Welcome to BF. Excellent shot. I like the perspective and composition. The background is plain and compliments the subjects. My only critique, and it's a personal preference, is more contrast. I guess you can probably do that on the computer. I think you have the equipment and eye to make a hell of a photographer. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff in the gallery.
