strange little growth in BC, Canada (1 Viewer)

I honestly don't even know what this is. flower? fungus? alien?

was out hiking some trails with a couple friends by a lake here on Vancouver Island, BC, today, and found 3 of these little guys growing near each other, and no more to be seen anywhere. we all thought they were super weird looking and are very curious to know what they are. maybe someone here will know?

How about Boschniakia hookeri, a parasitic plant in the Orobanchaceae?
