Exclamation Angling in Ireland under threat

http://www.fishingtalkireland.com/fo...er=asc&start=0

I'm posting this link as I know many members of this forum also like to do a bit of fishing and are interested in conservation.
Fishing in Ireland is seriously under threat by anglers both local and foreign who insist on killing what they catch.
Some people have been seen using nets to catch fish while others are using rod and line and just taking home the keepnet full of fish.
They are not fussy about what they catch and kill this includes Pike,Carp,Roach Rudd etc. Bream fillets have been hanging out to dry on washing lines and for sale in markets !!

I know many people visit Ireland for the fishing alone and i would urge everybody on this site to lend their support to any campaign in the future to lobby the Irish government to introduce a law to protect all Coarse fish before it is too late !

I agree although anglers in England think that the situation is out of their hands, they are really the people with the most power. Governments dont react unless something starts costing them money. If foreign anglers were to complain to the tourist board or publicise about the lack of fish compared to say even 5-6 years ago then maybe they might realise that they will soon be out of pocket big time as tourism is one of largest economy in this country.

As far as I know the fishing fraternity is only starting to get organised in this country now, let hope it no too late !

I think my post was 'pulled' because I mentioned a specific nationality. Sorry!
What I said was that on my last fishing expo to Ireland, I kept coming across cruisers festooned with the heads of large dead pike! The people on board were also towing huge lures behind the boat tied to 60lb line! Very sporting! I asked them what they did with the Pikes' bodies, they replied that they froze them and took them home for food! (Then they put their towels on all the sunbeds!)

Exclamation

Here is an article which highlights the major problems we ae facing here, some of the pictures are very distressing. http://www.fishingmagic.com/news/art...N/3597/v/1/sp/

I'm afraid this is not a once off incident and is happening right across the country. Please read the article and sign the online petition !!

Should we stick their heads on a Pike maybe?
