Leighton Moss

No birding buddy today so I decided to Go to Leighton Moss which isn't too far away.Disaster struck on the way when the exhaust broke in two A call to the AA and in no time a very nice man was with me instigating a repair to get me to my destination and back home.On arrival I went down to the Allen Pools first to see what was about. As soon as I got out of the car I knew there were plenty of Black-headed Gulls about by the amount of noise they were making.Once installed in the hide a scan round produced
Avocet 2
Lapwing
Wigeon
Teal
Mallard
Redshank
Shelduck
Greylag Goose
Canada Goose
Shoveler
Black-tailed Godwit
Gadwall
Moorhen
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Curlew
Black-headed Gull,including 1 nearly all white individual,see ID posting.
The walk back to the car produced
Robin
Carrion Crow
Dunnock
Sparrowhawk
Kestrel
After eating my lunch in the car park I went to the main reserve
where a walk round the hides added
Water Pipit year tick
Water Rail year tick
Tufted Duck
Coot
Goosander
Pochard
Common Gull
Magpie
Buzzard
Wren
Nuthatch
Great Tit
Blue Tit
Chaffinch
Blackbird
House Sparrow
Pheasant
and lastly a Green Woodpecker from the car park. The weather was glorious, warm all day and apart from the early set back I had a great day.

Great report Geoff. I'm still struggling for Avocet and a few others off your list, but I'd settle for the Avocet. Maybe I'll have to try to get down there one day soon.

Thanks Geoff for that nice report, and it was lovely to see a pic of an Avocet - one of my favourite birds.
