Successful rescue

Today while gardening in the back yard, I came upon a baby Robin that had fallen out of the nest. I thought at first it was injured, but it did make a few successful flight attempts for short distances about the yard. Eventually it hopped up into our fence and sat there for a long while. I got my camera to take a picture of it and as I was taking the picture, heard the sound of chirping right above my head. The bird was right under what was his nest. I got a ladder and climbed up to check it out, and there was a second baby still in the nest and mom no where to be found. So, with my son's help, we put on some gloves and were able to pick up the bird and place him back. About a 1/2 hour later I went back and there was mom back near the nest with her little ones, which I was glad to see. All of them seemed to be very happy to be together again. Later in the day I noticed the babys were able to jump around on the branches of the tree right near the nest, but neither was venturing out again. Here are the pictures I was able to get. I was wary of placing the bird back in the nest, but more afraid that if I left it, it would have been taken by the neighbor's cat. So, I was relieved when the mom came back and all seemed well.

I don't think it could have gotten back. I could tell it was trying and the other one was chirping quite a bit towards it. It was hopping a lot and only able to "fly" a few feet upward and then back down again. It then just hopped into the fence and sat there right under where the nest was.

Well I think you did the right thing Barbi, I have been told that it's a myth that parent birds will reject their offspring if they've been handled by people. Well done!
