digiscoping with diascope 85
What cameras work best when digiscoping with the Zeiss Diascope 85? I have a Nikon Coolpix 5700, but I know that won't work too well. Do I need a camera with an internal optical zoom? Can anyone give me a few recommendations? Also, I'd need an adapter, right?
Thanks from someone who has never digiscoped before. |

Well swampy I got the zeiss quick adapter and I`m totally satisfied with it and I`m using a canon A95 which works quite well. Had it for a little over 2 weeks so I`m no expert but if you scan through the digiscoping forum you`ll find a lot of usefull knowledge. There`s a lot of bird brains in this forum (I meen that in a good way
)Youll definitly enjoy diging . It takes awhile but it`s most satisfying. ![]() |

I would have thought any of the main cameras used for digiscoping, as mentioned on this site, should work well with the diascope. It is a top end scope with a large eye piece and the 85mm objective lens lends itself well to capturing good light for digiscoping.
The zeiss quick adaptor is expensive but I agree it would serve you well for a number of different cameras. If you want one of the 'classic' digiscoping cameras I'd consider the Coolpix 4500 or the more modern Canon Powershot A95. Both can be used directly on the diascope with an adaptor. As the first reply said, have a browse round the site and do some searches and you'll find a wealth of information on different potential combinations. I use a diascope 85 with a coolpix 4500. I still class myself as a beginner but I am very happy with the results I can get. If you go to my gallery on the site, you can see some 4500/diascope combination pictures. But again, if you do a more widespread search of the gallery for zeiss or diascope you will find many more shots. Hope this helps Matthew |

I use the diascope 85 with the Zeis quick adapter arm and a Canon A95 with a Penine cable release. It works very well, you do not need to have an internal focusing camera. That was one of the concerns I had ,but when the camera is set up on the arm it does not foul the eyepeice if you swith it off or on. Vigneting is not an issue with the 20 - 60 zoom eyepeice.
I am a beginer at digiscoping but did a lot of research before spending the cash and I am delighted with the gear. Check the threads and there is a reveiw. |
