Pelagic UFO
Took these two sets of photos yesterday 70 miles off of Cape May NJ. Second set of photos was taken at a different time (2-3 hours earlier than first set). Not sure if they are of the same bird. Any ideas?

I am hardly a good pelagic guy (land-locked), but would ID these as either Manx or Audubon's. The silghtness of the bird and white around the eye suggests Audubon's Shearwater (P. lherminieri). CHEERS, JOE G |

I can add to that that the bird in the second set appears to have dark under-tail coverts, which rules out Manx

Hmm... That's funny.

I think you have both Manx and Audubon's there. In the first set, the lower right inset with the bird hurtling away showing white flank patches is a Manx. Audubon's never shows that feature. However the others, especially the one with the dark undertail coverts appear to be Audubon's.

1 is a Cory's Shearwater
The Storm Petrel pictures look good for Wilson's with those long legs. |

Never really taken much interest in US pelagic birds and don't know what ones you get, but the last two pics look very much like Wilson's Petrel to me.
Edit: Andrew beat me to it!

The swimming shearwater with the white spot in front of the eye is an Audubon's...Manxies have dark lores. In Audubon's the tail usually extends farther than the wings, Manxies have longer wings as well as white undertail coverts.
