Bird ringing in Essex / Suffolk, UK.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for the replies to my first posting, trust me to put it in the wrong forum!!
I am trying to find a ringer tainer in the Essex / Suffolk area (UK) it appears a very difficult task. I have asked the BTO, who have been very helpful, but most ringers appear either to have trainees or are unable to take trainees on for other reasons.
Does anyone else have any ideas?

It's a problem in most areas.Taking on a trainee and ensuring you can all get out to a site at the same time can also be a prob'.Try asking if you can assist as a helper for a while, this'll allow both you and a trainer to see if ringing is for you.

It may pay to contact the field study concil at flatford mill, they run various courses including bird ringing for beginners etc thou they don't seem to be advertising any at the moment but the 2006 courses are'nt on the web site yet http://www.field-studies-council.org...als/birds.aspx

Thank's Simon, I have just been on the very course at Flatford, and would recommend it to anyone. The instructor ringers are very good, with Mark Grantham from the BTO as well, but they all understand and appreciate how hard it is to get started.
However, I will keep trying..........
