Question Short-billed Dowitcher? (pic attached)

I saw this at the Marina in San Diego harbor a couple of weeks ago. I have given it a "provisional" tick. I believe it is a Short-billed Dowitcher, but if anyone has a good reason why it isn't then I would appreciate your sharing.

It was very confiding and allowed me to within 6 feet of it.

Not a great picture, but the fairly prominent level of pale edgings to the back feathers, and significant pale edgings on tertials [can't tell from pic if pattern is fractured]. Also the white tail banding looks almost as wide as the dark [although not a clear call from this picture]. Seem to suggest SBDO.

I think I can see tiger stripes on those tertials. If you were 6 feet from it in the field presumably you could see them well enough to rule out LBD.

The bird is molting. It has new basic I scapulars, but retained juvenile tertials and coverts. Yes, it's a Short-billed Dowitcher.

Thanks, I was indeed that close but didn't even know that was a feature that would have helped in differentiating the two! I will certainly keep it mind for next time though. The tiger-striping was also mentioned to me in a PM from Rick Wright a few hours after I posted the picture.
