Nikon 9xx/4500 - Won't Turn Off - Erratic
My 990 started acting up a few weeks ago. At first it wouldn't turn off. Then it would turn off but would periodically turn itself back on. I asked around and was referred to this webpage;
http://www.nightskyevents.com/Nikon950repair.html Aftering obtaining some good quality plastic-safe contact cleaner I conducted the described disassembly, sprayed the switch, reassembled the camera, and have now seen no further symptoms. I now doubt the disassembly is necessary as the switch is very thin and more than half of it sits external to the camera body anyway. One person has reported cleaning the switch periodically in this manner without the disassembly. Dave |

whenever my 4500"freezes",I just remove,then re-insert the battery,and everything is fine.

Well, that freezing is probably quite a different problem. I think the switch problem always shows up as the camera remaining on or turning on when the switch is turned to the "off" position.
