postcardcv's 2006 photo year list

When out birding on the 2nd of January my wife set me the challenge of photographing 125 species of birds in the year. I deceided to give it a go, though personally I think I might struggle to get to 100...

I thought I'd keep the list online and here seemed the best place - I'll upload one photo for each species I manage to get - wish me luck.

To get started from the 2nd here are:
1. blue tit
2. chaffinch - new photo from 24th Feb
3. wood pigeon
4. robin - new photo from 26th Feb

an exciting (for me) and unexpected addition this morning...

17. bullfinch

it's not the best photo, but was taken in my back garden - we've lived here for four years and this is only the fourth record of bullfinch. Alas the light was terrible so this is shot at ISO1600 and 1/80, so I was glad to get anything. Amazingly as I was taking the shots a second male came into the garden.

also at Lynford today...

36. carrion crow
37. long-tailed tit
38. firecrest

I had to wait a couple of hours for the firecrest to show well enough to get shots, but it seems worth it now.

a few more just before the end of the month:

55. red-brested merganser
56. goosander
57. Bewick's swan
58. lesser scaup
59. tree sparrow

I know that the lesser scaup is a very poor record shot - but it's the first one I've seen and it was the best I could manage...

and also...

74. great black-backed gull
75. gannet
76. shag
77. fulmar
78. guillemot

the gannet and shag are very poor shots, I did get better ones but the flash card failed on me... I'll change them if I manage to recover the better ones.

the dowitcher was my second lifer of the year, so I was very pleased to get some reasonable shots of it.
