Mild winters are helping the return of the Dartford warbler to Suffolk's coastal heaths, including Minsmere nature reserve. Unusually for a warbler, the dartford warbler is a resident species known to be vulnerable to a run of cold winters. An estimated 61 pairs in 2002 and a further increase this year is likely. Also Dartford warblers can be seen at the National Trust's Dunwich heath, where they first re-colonised in 1995. Toodle Pip Jeff Taylor

I was at Dunwich Heath last weekend and saw several Dartford's. It's really good news that they are doing well.

Great news, these birds can dominate an area that they like (and given mild winters).... they seem the most abundant bird on Dunwich Heath, I've rarely walked around the heath and seen less than a dozen birds.
They also seem to be spreading out around Westleton Heath. Andy
