fuji S9500

Hi.
Have just purchased a Fuji S9500. Very happy with it, but have not yet used it for Digiscoping. Can anybody advise me, where I can try a Teleconverter on it as most of the High Street stores do not stock any for me to try. Albeit they are quite prepared to order one for me on a Sale only basis. mmm !
Due to to 10 x Optical Lens and the 2 x Zoom it is very good for taking photos of all sorts or Wild Life, providing you can get reasonably close. I know the obviouse choice would be an SLR camera, + Lens + etc etc, but I do not have the funds.
Any advise appreciated.

Hi Keith I do not own a 9500 but have had similar issues with my Minolta. I purchased a Raynox 2020pro teleconverter which has a 2.2x conversion. It suffers serious vignetting except at full zoom, where it only has dark corners on the square image. This I do not mind as I only need it for full zoom anyway - distant animals and birds.

The quality is good, the price is around £120. I got an adapter ring to step it up to my Minoltas 49mm thread. I think your Fuji lens is even bigger, so you may get more vignetting.

There are better teleconverters the T-con 200 (2x made by Ricoh) is one , there is also a very good TC1.7x and 300 (3x) which was either made by olympus or sony (sorry cant remeber who at the moment).
Most of these are later ones mentioned are only now available through Ebay.

My maximum zoom with my Minolta is 200mm + the 2.2x = 440mm. Which allows me to get some nice bird photos if the are within about 30 feet (10metres) which sadly isnt very far away. But I know your F9500 is a lot better in this respect.

This link below shows many examples of teleconverters in use which is very old, and fitted to early D7i, but you may find it interesting.

Also Sony do a 52mm thread 2x video converter which some people say is quite good. It is cheap in the USA about £35 but here in the UK shops are asking £75-£90 for it!

I now mainly use a Fuji F10 and a small fieldscope for most of my bird photos as it gives me far more range than my old Minolta.

PS. I am also based in Devon (Tedburn, Nr Exeter).

Does it have a filter thread on it? If so you can but a decent 1.7x adapter made by olympus for under £100 which will give you a lens of equivalent to 600mm on an slr. I have one for my fuji 5600. i can let you know exactly what the model is if you want more info.

The name of the Olympus teleconverter is the TCON-17. It has a 55mm thread.

The Raynox 2020 Pro 2.2X Converter is going for £64.08
HERE

Ive just got one this past week and it arrived the next day. Ive yet to really use it but I had the Tcon 17 1.7X Converter for a year before I dropped it and was more than happy with it. I was using a Fuji S5500 and Ive just upgraded to the S5600 so I know they both fit onto the S9500 but you will need a 55mm-62mm step up ring for the Raynox..
Hope this helps

Hi,
Don't know if you have got a tele lens sorted yet but check out the Tokina in my posting http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=73990
As i say its brilliant and if you can find one they go for pretty low prices (don't know how old they are?)
Cheers
Brian

Hi
I live in Cornwall and have a S9500 and have become interested in photographing wildlife. Can you tell me how your investigations are going. I would like to use mine for digiscoping but thought it would be impossible with the non detachable lens, if it needs to be on maximum zoom to avoid vignetting it would be quite a handfull.
