Pecking Order ?

Whats the pecking order on your garden feeders.I would imagine everyone has a slightly different set of birds and animals depending on their location. Top of my list are the Squirrels , grey of course. They take what they want and everything else moves aside. Next inline come the Parakeets, though if they come in numbers they than can dislodge the odd Squirrel from the nutfeeders. After them comes the Gt Sp Woodpecker then its pretty much as follows

Starling , H Sparrow , Great tit , Greenfinch, Goldfinch , Blue tit , Long tailed tit.

There are larger birds such as Woodpigeons and Collard Doves, Magpies and Jays etc but they always feed on the ground , thank god.

Hi Markho,

Could be an interesting topic for debate! Since our nut feeders have been rigged so the grey tree rats can't get them we don't have that problem! Also, parakeets have not got this far west (yet!) and the starlings tend to stay out in the fields.
Otherwise the pecking order is similar. Only significant difference is our nuthatches chase off anything even the GSW! Only one nuthatch will feed on the nuts at any one time and will not tolerate any other birds. Other times a whole mixture (4-5) birds, mainly Great tit, Blue tit and Coal tit will share.

Regards

Wish I had Nuthatches in my garden, haven't seen any in this area for years.
Top of my pecking order today was this young lady.

Hi Markho,

We've got a resident pair of Sparrowhawks as well - everything sure gets empty when one of them is around. Nice pic.
