This one I'm happy with - managed not to stiffen the poor thing up!

a further comment - for those people whose photos I end up not using - if the failure is awful - you won't get to see it. Also if the first effort is reasonable, I don't do anymore.

Great job on this one -- it's got a nice loose feel to it. I'm very intrigued by this whole A-Z thing ... too bad I missed the boat. It could have made for a very interesting birding challenge this summer!

Although I'd imagine that I'd be pretty hard pressed to find anything within driving distance that started with 'X'...

Thanks guys

Jomo - we are probably going to cheat too - if it has an "X" we will paint it! There is a sandpiper with the latin name "Xenus cinereus" that appears to be occasionally sited on this continent as far north as Alaska - I would only need to cheat a bit (since I don't think I've ever seen one) to paint this guy.

I really like this one, Sue! Nice & loose & love the spatter.

Jomo, I'm definitely not sticking to local birds, as I'm really wanting to paint birds that really appeal to me.

Sue, the only "X" bird I can find with the common name starting with "X" is Xenops, and of couse, the latin name starts with "xenops" also.

Yellow-headed Blackbirds are an 'X' -- not on my life list yet, but they do breed in Ontario.

Hi Jomo, thanks!
When we started this challenge if was with the idea of common names starting with the appropriate letter, so I looked until I found a bird for each letter. Some have already started using the scientific names to select their bird for each letter. No biggie, it's probably easier!

You could have Xantus' Murrelet. It's range extends into southern California apparently.
