Hello from Southern Ontario
Hi All:
Thanks to KC I made it here as a registered user. I've been watching a bit, and truly have so much to learn about cameras and scopes I thought I'd best get serious. I live in Burlington, Ontario and enjoy birdwatching, fishing, and nature in general. I love to take pictures, and soon will want a better camera. Hubby follows me around, and just maybe he loves birds and nature as much as I do. As for the camera, he says that's my department. So, I'm here to learn, relax, and have fun. Special greetings to all, I know I will enjoy it here. Lea |

Welcome my special friend!
I am delighted that you joined and I hope to be seeing some of your digiscoped pics here very soon. You have caught on far better to it than I have.

Greetings Lea :-)
We are located in Edmonton, ALberta, however we spent lots of our time at our lake cottage year round, located 127 Km west of the city at a nice small lake amid high popular trees 300 feet from the water edge. I am also new to this whole gamut of birding and digiscoping and lots to learn. I am solo in this hobby, but the wife does enjoy the birds at the lake Visit my website and look around and see what I have accomplished sofar with the type of camera and the spotting scope choice, at --->>> www.walther-loff.com Cheers Walther Loff |

Hi Lea,
On behalf of Admin and the Moderators, welcome to Bird Forum I hope that you like the site. We are approaching 2,000 members from around the World, albeit most are from either side of the Pond. We have forums about all things birding including some excellent ones covering all aspects of bird photography, though chiefly aimed at digital cameras and digiscoping. Have a good look around and see what tickles your fancy. See you around.

Walter, I looked at your site and digiscope set up and was quite intrigued. I'll go back again that's for sure. I'm not at that stage, first I need a good camera. Right now I'm just hand holding mine to the scope but I'm quite happy with the results. Maybe I can figure out some mode to attach my camera too!!
I love the sounds of your cottage, and I bet you can get some great shots there. Give the wife time, maybe she'll join you in the bird watching and picture taking venture. Lea |

Hi Lea and welcome from Northern Ontario! We seem to have the same likes but at different ends of the province.
Hope you enjoy it here! Check out my online photo album to see how it is up here, if you're interested. |

Hi Tammie, and thanks for your welcome. You must be way up there. Are you near Lake of the Woods? I loved your pictures, now what's a whiskey jack! (Hope I don't embarrass myself with that one) And of course your pickerel, and pike shots are great. I'd love to cook out in the winter, as long as the winds aren't too bad. I laughed at the perch pictures, from too small, to huge!! excellent shots.

Hi again, Lea,
No I'm not near Lake of the Woods, it's still far west of here. We are near Lake Nipigon (within a few hours). Lake of the Woods is closer to the Ontario/Manitoba border, a fair hike from here. A whiskey jack is a Gray Jay, one of my all time favorite birds... could you tell from the pictures?! I'm waiting for them to return right now with babies... they've been gone nesting for about a month now but should be returning any time. Glad you like the pictures. What area are you looking at up here for moving? And I'm just curious enough to ask... why do you want to move up here? Most people want to go the other way! |

Hi Tammie:
We've not been that far north yet, but one day hope to travel that way for a holiday. We do love to fish and want a house on a lake..This is our dream. So we are looking to retire up north because of it's beauty and lakes, but we are wondering about the winters. There are a lot of folks retiring north. One reason is the housing is reasonable, and the life style is quieter. It's crazy here, and hubby wants to go where it's quiet and peaceful. We don't see Gray Jays, and when you said whiskey jack, I had no idea it was a jay. They are gorgeous birds!! I had to look him up once I knew the name, so now I will remember what they look like. Have a great day. Lea |

Many apologies for welcoming you to the forum earlier. I have been away. I hope you enjoy this website and engage fully in all aspects of it to your and our pleasures.
(Sorry if this is a standardised welcome, there will be a few folk to welcome so I am using the same message but the sincerity is genuine.)

WELCOME
Hi Lea from Northern Saskatchewan. Welcome to BF from a fellow Canadian. This is an excellent (the best) site for joining fellow feather lovers. You can get the answer to any question you might have and we all love to hear about each others birding adventures. If you want peace and quiet the bush is the place to be. Well winter time anyway. Right now our lakes are full of canoers and American fishermen. The highway can be a mite busy on Friday afternoons. Gets a little tricky on my bike when they are all trying to pass each other in the race to the lakes/rivers. I see that you have learned about the Whiskey Jacks from Tammie - mine haven't come back yet either. Right now I am trying to figure out where a Great Grey Owl is nesting but it gets a bit tricky orienting around muskeg. And we have a bear around too (met him on the road while cycling yesterday) that I have to make lots of noise for but not too much to scare birds - talk about difficult! LOL.
