New to San Diego

Hello to everyone out there! My name is mike, i am a 23 year old east coast (maryland) transplant to southern cali (san diego). I dont know the area very well but have already managed to add almost 20 species to my life list in only a week! So far the most exciting things ive seen have been swainsons hawk, american white pelican, and white tailed kite. Im hoping for more excitment soon! If anyone could point me in the direction to see some good stuff, i would really appreciate it.

Consult http://fog.ccsf.cc.ca.us/~jmorlan/sd.htm for birding info.

San Diego Co. has a very active birding community, in keeping with its being "America's Birdiest County" and city. You should sign up for the sdbirds mailing list. Ask me privately for the link.

Also, you'll want to buy a copy of the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Philip Unitt. It's $80 or so, but well worth it. It's essential for any birder in the Southern California, not just in San Diego Co.

In addition, you'll want to by A Birder's Guide to Southern California by Brad Schram. It's published by the American Birding Association, but you can buy it over-the-counter at bird sancuaries and at the San Diego Natural History Museum bookstore. They also have the bird atlas, of course, since the museum is its publisher (well, actually, the San Diego Society of Natural History).
