Alle loads of info on this area. For starters try these links:

http://www.fatbirder.com/links_geo/e...ote_dazur.html

http://www.camacdonald.com/birding/eufrance.htm

Worth also visiting Mt venteaux (Citril Finch etc..), chevennes, Gorges de truel (Griffon vulture)

Gosney Guide as well as Ornitholidays guides are OK.

Good Luck.

Some species are very localised and all the info on these should be in the above references

Fantastic Destination, especially if you can combine with a trip to the pyrenees.

Gosney Guides we bought was superb. There were quite old and a bit pricey but the info was spot on. I am glad we bought them. Don't think we would have seen half as much easily without. Only one place we could not find but the French do have a habit of putting electric fences across paths. We stayed in Arles last June and drove out every day. The temp was into the 40's and unusually for me I got bitten to pieces. My wife got bitten by what we think were spiders (according to the pharmacist) and came out in massive blisters on her legs and ankles. Worth wearing walking boots and trousers when out. Superb food and wine at reasonable prices (the 2 hour lunches were a bit of a drag but you just have to do them!!!!!). Don't know when you are going but we had a superb holiday.

PS We went through the Chunnel and drove through France stopping a couple of nights on the way.

Just noticed you mentioned about your wife being bitten by spiders.....something I'd never even thought about till one got me in Majorca a few years ago. Grew in to a massive rash all over my stomach and almost ended up in hospital for blood tests the doctor was so concerned by the apparent toxin spread.
Am told that there are some pretty toxic beasties even in Europe, just that they rarely bite humans as our skin is too thick for the fangs. Just watch your soft bits!!!

This site is good, especially for the latest rarities.

Don't miss the tip at enressen. Great for raptors and other stuff - storks etc. Very near la Crau. Little bustards best at the airfield (Eyguyieres?) to the east of arles (20/30kms)
