Pied Wagtail

what age and sex would you put this pied wagtail please.
would i be right in saying 1st summer female?
Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: sorry meant female

I think it's a near adult female. (but i could easily be proved wrong by people who know!!)

If it was a male its back should be that glossy black colour and there's no hint of that.

A date when taken is a good thing eagle33! I pressume itīs taken in spring.
Pied, blackish rump.
Sometimes difficult to age, but usaually in 1st summer birds thereīs a moult contrast between older worn brownish outer greater coverts and newer fresher moulted inners. Also the primaries are brownish looking. Some may moult or retain all greater coverts, and if moulted they are similar to adults. As in your bird, 1st winters also have a moult contrast in the tertials, the inner one retained and worn. Primaries are difficult to see on your bird, so we canīt age these. As the greater coverts have no obvious moult contrast, only a slight one, which can be seen in image 2, and if this is a 2cy, which has renewed all itīs greater coverts the previous autumn itīs impossible to age on greater coverts alone. So, possible 2cy female (looking) Pied, or adult female, to play safe.
