I am off to the northern part of exmoor (minehead, porlock area) at the weekend (yay!). Does anyone know of any good spots around there, particularly for dipper, wood warbler, pied flycatcher, ring ouzel and grasshopper warbler?
thanks,
James

Hi James,
Try Horner (SS898455 - just above Porlock) for Dipper, Pied Flycatcher and Wood Warbler. Just follow the stream up the hill to the road bridge (about a 1 mile or so) - woodland all the way. There is parking and toilets next to the tea rooms. Also, Porlock Marsh is well worth a visit at this time of year. Hurlstone Point could also be worth a visit (could be a few migrants dropping in, plus sea watching if the conditions are right). Sorry, but can't advise on Ring Ouzel of Grasshopper Warbler. Have an enjoyable visit to Somerset.

I was up on Exmoor this afternoon and saw several Pied Flys, Redstarts and Wood Warblers. You can see all three if your park at Webbers Post car park and walk down the hill to the ford at Cloutsham (or drive down and walk up). Several Lesser Redpolls around the car park at WP. A good site for Grasshopper Warbler most years is either side of the road from Webbers Post up towards Dunkery although mid afternoon today we didn't hear any, later in the day may produce results though. There were two Grasshopper Warblers reeling at Chetsford Water but we didn't see them, cracking male Whinchat there though.
The Black Headed Wagtail was showing well at Minehead Golf Course despite the course being heavily used by Golfers, at least 10 Yellow Wagtails and 3 White Wagtails there as well. BHW still present this evening.
Dippers are on most rivers on Exmoor, there was one on the river at Exford today. If you need any more information send me a PM. Roger
