bird crypto's

hi puzzly people,

since anyone is so creative to think of ways to puzzle the birder's mind i thought it would be a great idea to make up cryptograms of birds. I hope i can give an idea of the idea. I'll start off, just try to solve them and especially make up some more!

1) This bird has a shed in its stomach
2) A royal foodprovider
3) A bird dressed up like an oyster

Cant think of more yet... i think you englishspeaking people can make up much more than i. Good luck on it!

Think cryptic crossword clues.

2) A royal foodprovider

king (royal) fisher (foodprovider).

My suggestion of blackbird came from the well known rhyme. But as birdman says Steve's is most likely right.

Number 1 is mighty hard, but I think you'll see Steve got it.

I understand when I see the answers, but I really have trouble working any out. (Never could do cryptic crosswords.)

BTW is anybody else not the teensiest bit embarrassed that these English cryptos were set by a Dutchman!!!!

Nice one, erik!

I go with everyone above:

1. Barn Swallow
2. Kingfisher
3. Shelduck

I just wish I'd thought of the answers!

How about some more:

4. wonderful pixie joins a woman's navy
5. this bird scores bullseyes
6. burning to follow

(hint: no.s 4 and 6 are Australian only; no. 5 is a worldwide sp.)

Just checked my birdlist... and I think I've got a choice of three.

Lovely, Splendid or Superb.

I'll go for...

... Splendid!

i guess i started off something really funny! My answers were:

Barnswallow
Kingfisher
Shelduck

so congrats to the ones who solved them!
hmmm the aussi birds, i would say nr 7 would be a dodo :)
#4 is that a frigatebird?
I dont know many aussi birds, i just gazed through my 'Amazing facts of Australian birds' book and couldnt find any satisfying answers. But i do have some new crypto's on aussi birds, however some birds may live elsewhere as well. Let's give it a shot:

10) Someone tries to disguise her chest
11) This bird invites to interfacial contact
12) This bird didn't quite satisfy captain Hook

Good luck on it!
