two mammal news stories

A grizzly-polar bear hybrid has been discovered (and unfortuantely shot...):

And a recently discovered African monkey may merit assigning to a new genus...or may not.

Just noticed the bear story on the BBC website:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4766217.stm

Quotes:

"The guide .. noticed the creature had the long claws and slightly humped back of a grizzly bear and thought it might be a hybrid. "

"It's the first time it's known to have happened in the wild."

So they shot it.

Nice to see such enlightened attitudes in the 21st century!
