Can anyone advise if the GC Grebes near the heronry at Stanley Park ever managed to nest succesfully? I've not had chance to get down there for quite a few weeks & the last time I went it looked like they'd abandoned the nest & gone their seperate ways?

Not been out birding locally for quite a while so my only recent sightings of note are the Swifts nesting in my neighbours eaves, of which I've attached a few photos along with one of the fledgling sparrows in the garden.

Cheers

Cliff

Nice shots of the Swift Cliff, its a few years since I've seen Swift nesting localy. They are in that much decline the RSPB is currently doing a survey of where they are nesting and feeding.

Neil, I had a comment left on my blog last night saying there are no eggs in the Terns nest. Have you seen them in the nest? It would be a shame if the Gulls have finaly got them.

Derek

Little owl....!

There is a little owl, living on a farm not far from brockholes.Only spotted it recently, but the last 3 times i have cycled past....it has been there in the day sitting on fence posts.See pic....!If anyone is interested the directions are ,just take the footpath on the ribble, past the golf course and sand martin colony going towards preston and keep going until you get to the farm...there is only the one farm, it lives there.Be nice to see a better pic than mine.Hope this is helpful......Peace

Thanks Kwyll. Good photo

Can you get to the farm via the pub at the bottom of the London Rd.
It's not a million miles away from me so might take a look one night.
When's the best time to see it?

Derek

Finally found the other nest Derek. Female was on the nest, no sign of the male but she aint half aggresive compared to the other female on the apartments side. Still no sign of eggs as she wasnt for moving, also Auto Focus is starting to take the ****!!! Numerous times the male was right in front of me in flight and the dam focus just wouldnt compensate in time!!!! Will add some pics later

Anglezarke close by is quite a good spot, in the past has had Pintail and Widgeon when I have been up there but that was March. White Coppice has reports of alot of Woodpeckers, including Green's, I aint been lucky enough to see them. Aswell as Peregrines at Croston not to far away.

There are also Redstart, Buzzard and Tree/Meadow Pipit. Last time I headed out that way didn't see much as the weather wasn't to good.

I've seen a GCG family on the lake in the last few days, though I think they were from the nest on the island out in the main boating lake.

Just emailed Cliff aswell, just come back from a walk with the missus and can clarify the above from Mik. They have 2 chicks and are on the island on the main boating lake.

Saw a hobby yesterday-

you'd have needed at least an 800mm lens to get a decent shot though. There was a juvenile even firther away so I won't embarass myself further by posting that one!

Lovely to see though.

I made the mistake of cycling to anglezarke and walking up to White Coppice, not as fit as i think i am, next time i will go straight up the hill to the cricket ground and start from there.
I was told that there was a Spotted Flycatcher around but didn't have any luck locating it and you need good info for the Redstarts which i didn't have either but if someone has seen them i am sure they will give you (and me ) directions next time

Well I never!

I was the small (height wise) 50 odd year old woman (blond hair tied up ) with the tall scouser with goatee beard and glasses that had the Nikon 300m f2.8.
Which one were you?

We kept hearing a blackcap but never saw it - Congratulations on getting that one!
