Photoshop Elements & Transparent GIFFs?

Hello again, another computer question. I notice some folk have transparent background on some of theri avatars and wondered how to creat Giffs with such backgrounds. I have tried reading the help section but it is not clear, apparently the file needs to have already got a matted or transparent background in the first place! HELP!

Andrew, you can always trace your image, copy it, and then paste it into a new gif image that has a transparent background.
