Grebe ID...UK

A friend took me to Wellington Gravel Pits near Hereford yesterday and out on the water was a group of Grebes. They were quite a way off and my thoughts were that they were juvenile Great Crested. My friend thinks they were Black Necked Grebes.
Poor photo attached...which one of us is right please.

That is a Great-crested Grebe though I did think it was going to be a Red-neck on he thumbnail!!
