Help ID, France Bird

Hello,

I've been touring in France and England for almost three month. Back home in Canada, I blocked on this picture for ID. I know it is not the best quality. Despite that it says 2005, the picture was taken on the 30th of july 2006 at Villars-Les-Dombes in France. You can see the picture here .

Thank you in advance.
Rebecca - Montreal

iIdon't agree. The body is slender and the head too. Long tailed tit has a more rounded and bulky body.
The tail is squared, and the throat black so the bird is a white wagtail.

I agree. It IS a Long-tailed Tit - not often you find a White Wagtail deep in a bush either. The head is turned, making the throat appeat dark, but this is the birds supercilium. Also visible is the large white crown patch on the top of the head, characteristic of Long-tailed Tit.

If it's a LTTit, why is there extensive black on lower cheeks and under bill, as well as on crown? White Wag in an odd place for me!

How do you explain the pink tinge to the flanks then? Also the white edges to the outer tail feathers are staggered, because the outer most tail feather is shorter then then next tail feather inwards - just like the graduated tail of a Long-tailed Tit

My post was written before I saw your post, and looking at the bird again I'm even more confused! I cannot see any pink tinge on my monitor, maybe simply a limitation of my laptop, but to my eye it's a White Wag with a LTTit's rear end! I took the bird to be looking towards the photographer (I think its eye is part visible, but mostly behind a twig) and the black on chin to be just that, not shadow; the body also looks long for LLTit to me, and that's what made me think White Wag. Now, looking properly at the tail, that feature looks like LTTit. I'm going to retreat gracefully from this one.

LTT unquestionably.

The pink flush is there on my monitor, and - if you zoom into the image (a very handy Firefox plug-in, this! ) - there's no question about ID. We're looking at a lottie with its head turned away from the camera.

When I first saw the pic, for about 1/100th of a sec, I thought white wagtail. But the tail is WAY too long, and it also has a "fluffyness" to it that you wouln't see in a white wagtail.

Just to say that I understood my mistake and I'm sorry for my previous thought.
