Question How does digiscoping work with SLR cameras? (Nikon D50)

I have a Nikon D-50 and am leaning towards buying a Kowa TSN-821M scope.

My question is - how do you know when to take the picture since you can't even see through the camera what picture you will be taking?

I also have an Olympus C4000 - with that, I could look at the LCD while it was connected to the scope and know when the picture was in focus and even pointing at what I wanted to photograph.

Terry,
I used to use my F-5 hooked up to my Scope. My viewfinder was "through the lens" so I saw the same image I would through any lens. Not familiar with your camera but would think you are also "through the lens" - might want to check that.

I've gone to digiscoping because the scope with the F-5 was an awkward set up, it acted like a manual focus 800 mm f8 fixed aperture lens. Some folks do use this set up though and photos can take advantage of the additional telephoto power.

So it sounds like I am still stuck looking through the tiny viewfinder. I guess that's not so bad because when I do take a picture, I can look at the LCD to see how it came out.

Thanks!
