What is it?

First off let me preface this by telling you all I know what it is. This poor attempt at digiscoping will be used for doucmentation and I was wanting to see if there was enough in this pic to identify this bird. Picture taken in northern California around noon today.

Gonna say Northern Shrike actually because of what looks like a white eye-ring. Agewise... 1st CY? (thought because of scaley breast).

And I'll add "juvenile" based on the barring on belly. And now to go way out on a limb so to speak say maybe Northern due to what apears to be a "hook" on the end of the bill. Hopefully we'll get a more definitive answer.
