Teal ?? ID (USA)

I believe this is a teal, note the large, Northern Shoveler like, gray bill. I am leaning towards either a Nonbreeding Male Cinnamon Teal or a Female Cinnamon Teal. Would appreciate help.

The photograph was taken at the National Elk Refuge, Wyoming (near Yellowstone National Park) in mid September.

You can see a photograph at the link below.

I have been trying for a day to upload this photograph to the forum and have not been able to do so. One of the Moderators should address this.

Photo upload problem has been resolved, so I added the photograph.

Should be working now.

Unless someone tells a mod, then we don't always know about these things. Just pm a mod and they'll be on to it.

cheers,
Andy

I tried to tell a Moderator, but I did not know who was a Moderator and looked throughout the site to find a link, but could not find one (may be there but I did not find it).

Female (looking) Bob, male eclipse has a red eye and more reddish plumage, and should just be out of eclipse by when image taken.

Hello all, I might as well copy below my response from yesterday, when Bob accidentally posted the bird to the Rare Birds forum. JanJ and I were in agreement once again, on different forums, for the same reasons, which is always a good thing!

"Hi Bob, my vote is for female Cinnamon Teal. Compared to female Blue-winged, the bill looks large and spatulate, the face is plain, the lores are dark, and the eye ring is muted. As for male Cinnamon Teal, I believe an adult would have a red eye, and have more of a reddish tint on the side and flanks, even in non-breeding plumage."

Makes life easier for me when everyone is in agreement. Thanks.
