T'isil Nature Reserve, Yucatan

Hi all,

A recent article in Birding World (Aug 06) described the excellent birding to be had at T'isil NR near Cancun. Apparently this is a privately run reserve. As I'm heading off to Yucatan soon I was hoping someone might know if visitor access can be arranged or maybe has contact details for the manager Paul Wood? The article did include reference to a web site (ranchosantamaria.com) but it doesn't seem to work properly.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Iain

Hi

I was there in 03 but i've never heard of the place

there's the botanical 'gardens' reserve and cozumel island but i wasn't aware of this reserve. Be interested to hear more for sure though...

I would thoroughly recommend Rio Lagartos area though - on the north coast and very doable from Cancun area

Tim

Hi Tim,

Yeah it's a great place. This'll be my fourth time in Yucatan. More beach hols with the Mrs than birding trips so I don't usually get to stray too far from Playacar. That's why I've managed cozumel and the gardens at Puerto Morelos but not got to the North coast. Also why I don't have the likes of Yucatan Wren on the list yet.

Cheers,
Iain
