That White Pelican
That's the one that came to Britain from Germany via Holland last summer.
Can anyone shed any light on these two questions , please ; 1) What exactly was its behavior while on the Ribble in Preston that caused its dismissal as a wild bird ? Please ,only direct ( or definite second-hand ) information on its interaction with birders/fishermen etc. E.g. Were they throwing fish to it or was it taking fish from the hand ? 2) Was the bird that approachable at any other time during its journey around the country ? I did see it myself ( on Anglesey ) and am curious as to exactly why we seem to be ruling out a bird that the Dutch have accepted as wild. A hungry , freshly arrived bird may well take food if its desperate, so how "tame" was it in Preston and why was it not so tame later ? |
