Leica 80mm spotting scope?

I'm in a position to upgrade my old trusty telescope for a newer model and being a Leica man have had my heart set on a APO 77mm. However, I have learnt on the grapevine that a new 80 mm scope is imminent. Can anyone shed any light on this and how imminent is imminent?

Your guess is as good as anyones.... an 82mm Leica scope has been rumoured for a couple of years now. It has been rumoured that it will be launched at Birdfair in August, but it's justrumours at the moment. You could always try calling Leica (01908 256400) and see if they can shed any light on it...

It's rumoured that Leica shelved plans during their recent financial crisis, but with their books in good order now (with the exception of Leica photographic), it's a distinct possibility again.

I spoke with the Leica USA folks last week and was told that there are new Televid Scopes on the way with a planned USA release in January '08. No details, just that there are new models on the way.
