A couple of waders, Dalarna, Sweden
Hi!
I took the photos below yesterday, at a small wetland patch called Sellänget, just outside of my hometown Borlänge. The poor quality is due to a strong wind blowing the whole day yesterday. 1. Greenshank? 2. Ruff? 3. Just showing the area - the waders I photographed was foraging in the canal to the far right - with the dust blowing off of the fields. The meteorologists say that rain is on its way, but I can't see any so far today. Last edited by ArtifexAmando : Monday 7th May 2007 at 06:41. |

I think your ids are correct. Looks like it could be a good area.

Thanks for your confirmation. :-)
Yes, there are actually quite a lot of birds there, despite the small area, people driving by in cars, but mostly on bicycles, and of course birdwatchers like me standing so close. Some day when the weather's better I'll take more photos to show you the diversity of birds. A few weeks back there was even a report of a Hoopoe being seen there by a farmer, the Hoopoe being a rare visitor this far north. |

Sounds promising, and a hoopoe is pretty umistakable!

So I've heard! :-) (And seen on photos...)
There are almost daily reports of Hoopoes from around Sweden this spring, so I'm just waiting for another local report, because I'd love to see one! :-) |
