Finches on hummingbird feeders

Both here in Texas and in California, I've noticed that House Finches sometimes drink from Hummingbird feeders. However, our current family of House Finches seems to really love sugar water. Since we put up the Hummingbird feeder a few weeks ago, the Finches appear to divide their feeding time almost equally between our seed feeders and the Hummingbird feeder. The young Finches even come and beg for a share when the adults drink.

Does anyone else have Finches that are addicted to sugar water?

Jeff

Yep, my house finches are always trying to drink out of the hummingbird feeder. Looks quite comical at times. I also have a picture (at home - I'm at work now) of a Gila Woodpecker drinking from a hummer feeder.

Gila

I'd love to see a Gila on the hummer feeder. In fact, I'd love to see a Gila anyway! I haven't seen one since my last visit to Arizona almost 5 years ago. I guess I'll have to make do with our Red-bellied Woodpeckers.

And I'd love to see a Red-bellied. Grass is always greener, eh!

Hi Lisa,

I have also had a Gila drink from my hummingbird feeder. In fact, this morning was the second time he was there (last time about a month ago and I was afraid I wouldn't see him again it had been so long). He drinks for quite a long time, but, alas, not quite long enough for me to get out my camera!!
