Birds Put Bite On Power Bosses......

Sunday Mail..... 27/10/02

Quote:
WOODPECKERS have landed power bosses with a £60,000 bill - by almost collapsing a six-mile electricity line.

The greater spotted woodpeckers have done so much damage to the 30ft poles across the Benderloch peninsula north of Oban that some of them are in danger of falling down.

A spokesman for Scottish Hydro Electric said: "We are not sure why the woodpeckers in Argyll prefer our poles to trees.

"But, for some reason, it only appears to be a local problem. There are no reports of them attacking any other lines in the network.

"There are so many holes in the poles, they will have to be replaced. The cost for each pole is £150."

Now that is humorous. I have a couple that work on my house and put a few nice holes in it.
