Shrike-tyrant, Putre - Northern Chile

Hi all

Just going thru my photos from Peru/Chile last year and want to check some photos. White-tailed Shrike-Tyrant I believe but Birds of Peru book is hardly the best field guide.

Cheers

Dave

Pale mandible and dark eye seems to clinch it... (the more common Black-billed has a black bill (surprise) and a pale eye according to Jaramillo, but the latter not too obviously depicted in Fjeldså and Krabbe).

Yup, I'd agree; dark eye, big bill seem to clinch it for me. Also and perhaps of no consequence, in my limited experience in Ecuador, WTST tends to perch on shrubs on dry hillsides whereas BBST prefers a nice rock.
