The GREAT quiz

Please don't post your answers straight away. Some folks want to play and they don't see the questions until they get home from work (or wake up if they live overseas) and Michael has usually answered them and disected them!!

I think these are alot easier than some of late.

The Great Quiz, All these questions are Great

2. Coral growth visible from space?
3. Jerry Lee Lewis boasted about these?
4. You might see this on a UK bird table?
5. A series of large bodies of water in North America?
6. Tallest of the Canines?
7. Celebrated by the Monument?
8. Ineffectual oriental fortification?
9. Largest of the British isles?
10. Built in 1856 and designed by Brunel, the largest ship
at the the time?
11. Diving bird with elaborate courting display?
12. Son of Philip II of Macedon?
13. Village 1 mile west of Walsingham, Norfolk?
14. In 1851, over six million people visited this?
15. Coastal town near the broads
16. Avian, always head banging?
17. Mountain range near Canberra
18. Town known for its porky prize for wedded bliss?
19. Ursa Major?
20. English king lived 849 to 899?

I think I can do all of them except for 13 and 18. I have an idea on 13 but having consulted a map (and leaving aside that there are two villages with Walsingham in their name in Norfolk) I'm thinking that the directions in the clue are a little wayward. 'Great' quiz indeed though.

Elizabeth the (second) pedant here. I now have time to sit down and look at this properly - Question 20 - his reign started in 871 (though he was born around 849).

No, the question says he was king during those years - he was the favourite son of another king, therefore presumably a prince - but he could not have been king until the old man snuffed it.

So what does this mean then - "20. English king 849 to 899?"

Take two - one for you and one for me.

Why? It's just harmless fun (isn't it, Pete?) - or do you mean we are taking up space incorrectly? Do you think we should continue by PM? Not meaning to upset anyone!

Pete - did you see the email I sent to you with a pictorial answer to number 8? I couldn't see a way of attaching it to a PM.

I thought Great-crested Grebe for 11 too - although Great northern Diver seems equally right.
I reckoned 7 was 'the Great War'.
