Hi from Ontario Canada
Glad I found this site...today I had to rescue a baby (fledgling) robin, its mother has been killed...so hopefully I can get some advice on taking care of him!
I have never raised a wild bird, but he is eating canned dogfood mixed with water and some berries I've mashed up... I am the mother of two boys, one is 20, sadly my eldest son passed away 2 years ago after being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 15...forever 19... now I am an empty nester (no pun intended LOL) but now I have this baby to care for so my nest is now occupied again! |

which forum should I go too for advice from other members?
normally I would have left the little fella on the ground longer, but he was there for a good few hours, no distress calls from mom or baby...then I found the pile of feathers which I am guessing is mom...:( it was too dangerous to leave the little fella much longer as there is a barn next door to us and many, many, barn cats... Thanks for the welcome |

Avian rehabilitation
I am also a new member, just joined today, in fact. I volunteer for a wildlife Rehabilitation centre in Napanee, Ontario. I am one of their baby bird foster Moms and it sounds like you could be one at some point as well! If you haven't already managed to get your Robin to a rehabilitator, it would be best to do so. The website for the centre that I volunteer for is http://www.sandypineswildlife.org and they will be able to direct you to a rehabilitator in your area. Your bird will do best with another young Robin and a licensed Rehabilitator who will be able to provide them with a complete diet and so much more. For the time being, if you still have this Robin, put a mirror in with it, it will enjoy the company, do not let your pets, if you have any, near it, we don't want your bird thinking that all cats and dogs are safe, this is the one type of songbird that we can give worms to, but not too many (some worms can pass parasites to birds).
