Well Marsh Harriers are not exactly rare any more, I think the nation would benefit more from the extra runway than from another pair of harriers. Just my opinion of course.

It is the first time they have bred there though. Saw three juviniles there this tuesday ... a brilliant site

Absolutely not.
The whole area-Dungeness, Walland Marsh, Rye Harbour NR constitues a unique habitat which is very important for birds-both breeding & overwintering.

Yes, we won't miss two when they get sucked into an engine on take off.
The pilot and passengers might have something to say as every flight has to dodge through thousands of birds every day

I found Lydd pretty hard to reach on a quiet day in June, so it seems like a stupid place for a larger airport indeed.
Other reasons why it's stupid are: it's coastal, so there are strong winds; there is very interesting habitat, only slightly ruined by a nuclear power plant; there are many gulls to create hazardous situations.
