Trip to Iceland
Hi There
Can anyone help? I fancy a cheap trip to Iceland next summer for a few days or a week. Can anyone recommend some cheap accomodation, nothing fancy as long as it has use of a shower. Does anyone know how much a ISK is worth? Does anyone know of any cheap car rental? thanks in advance Cheers Jamie (Tight) scottishdude ![]() |

We used these people for housing and car package
http://www.farmholidays.is/ You will need the car anyway to get to birding areas. Or book flight and car package. Otherwise, the car separately, it is expensive. Here is my trip with 3 nonbirders. http://www.birdforum.net/showthread....hlight=Iceland

We used a package deal which was hostel + car rental. This worked out quite cheap for the two of us (we stayed 11 days). This has been a few years back so the prices might have gone up. It was by far the cheapest deal we could find at the time.
I think the website address was www.hostel.is |

Hi Jamie
The ISK is roughly around 130 to the pound but is pretty volatile (129 at the moment, 137 a couple of weeks back). 'Iceland' and 'cheap' rarely go together in the same sentence but you'll dramatically cut costs by self-catering, skipping booze and using sleeping bag accommodation which, as the name suggests, means that you bring the sleeping bag, they provide the bed and the roof over your head (see link provided by Tero). Hotels are generally ridiculously expensive in summer. Get in touch if you need any help on where to go and when to go and check out the Birding Iceland website. E

We stayed here as it was cheaper than a hotel but you definitely need a car and preferably 4wd if you want to get to more remote areas. If you are based in the Reykjavik area you will only get to see the SW corner on a day trip. I would spend a couple of days in and around Reykjavik and then head North and book a hostel or two. Come back to Reykjavik and overnight there en route to the airport.
