A record number of stone curlews were spotted at Thetford Heath last week as they prepared to migrate to warmer climes for the winter.
Norfolk Wildlife Trust described the number of stone curlews spotted - 121 - as “staggering”, smashing last year's peak count of 97. The record count indicates a successful breeding season and confirms the birds are doing very well in Breckland. For more details see the Thetford Times |

Thank you for sharing this information with us here. It is certainly pleasing to hear a good number of Stone Curlews are around at the moment. It is good news to hear the amount of birds have increased over last years numbers that have occurred at Breckland, Thetford Heath as they have. "24 more than normal". I wish that they have a good trip in their migration, and some back to us soon. Funnily enough, 'Natures Calender' BBC 2, just mentioned Thetford Heath only the other week (must have been before this event happened) It is a Success with a capital S at that too. with increased numbers of birds each year. I hope that it is the case next year too. ![]() Regards Kathy
